Despite its name, poker is actually a game of strategy. It is played with a deck of cards and is played in poker clubs, casinos, private homes and over the Internet. There are many different variations of the game. It is a game of luck and skill and can be played by groups of friends or families.
The rules of the game are fairly simple. Each player receives two starting cards. These cards are face up. The dealer then pitches cards clockwise around the table. The player to the left of the dealer button is the first to act. This person receives the first card.

A player may fold if he is not satisfied with the cards he has in his hand.
Aside from the main betting interval, there are other types of betting. These include the small blind, big blind, ante and forced bets. The small blind is a forced bet that a player must make before the start of the hand. The big blind is a bet that is double the size of the small blind. The ante is a bet that a player must make before he can bet in the main pot.
The pot is a sum of all the bets that were made by the players in the deal. The pot can be won by a player who makes the highest bet. It is customary to place a maximum limit on the amount of money that a player can raise or bet. The ace is considered the lowest card in most games, but it can be the highest straight card.
